Biripi Land

I would like to acknowledge the Biripi, the traditional owners of this land past and present.

I have been photographing for over five years now and am currently completing studies at TAFE in Media and Communications. I made this choice because of my love for photography, and the satisfaction in knowing my images may be viewed by future generations and become a record of the past. I came to the conclusion that photography alone would not make an income and that I would need to write as well.

Although my writing may leave something to be desired it is necessary for me to continue daily to improve my skills. Maybe I have it and maybe I don't, only time will tell.
I wish to make a career, however there are many challenges and some disillusionment in taking this path. As social media is embraced by the wider community it seems that many organisations, from media to local council, are taking advantage of people like myself for free content.
Many of my images have been published and used, but in many instances I am told I cannot be paid for my work, despite some of these organisations turning over millions of dollars per year.
I am sure that there are many others out there in the same predicament, and the question is at what stage do you say no.

The positive and fulfilling side to this, is when you are contacted and someone thanks you and shows appreciation for an image. When that person is someone you admire and have great respect for that makes it all the much better. Thankyou Steven, you have made my day, and this will be my first image below.

I would also like to acknowledge The Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance for their appreciation of my work. http://www.saltwaterfreshwater.com.au/

The Eastern Water Dragon above reappeared in the last few days after hibernating for the winter.
Pretty sure he is the same one as last year but has grown a little. He lives in our courtyard.

SLR camera tip for today is don't just stand in the one position when shooting. Look for different angles, light, composition and orientation.

Fair Dinkum!!
